Background Knowledge

The delicate, floral, and slightly crisp aroma of First Flush Darjeeling meets the distinctively refreshing citrus notes of bergamot oil and bright blue cornflower petals. The origins of Earl Grey are surrounded by various legends: one story suggests it was created when a ship encountered a violent storm, causing black tea and bergamot oranges to mix in the cargo hold. Other sources claim that Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl Grey and British Prime Minister, wanted to enhance the hard water on his estate with this unique aroma.
