About Rooibos: The story of Rooibos goes back more than 250 years when the botanist Carl Thunberg observed the indigenous people of South Africa harvesting the plant and using it as a remedy as well as cherishing it for its delicious, aromatic taste. Eventually Cape-Dutch settlers started drinking Rooibos as an economic alternative to expensive imported tea from Asia. Agricultural production of Rooibos began in the 1930s and the popularity of this deeply aromatic herbal tea has grown steadily ever since. To this day the unique terroir of the Cederberg area of the southern Cape is the only place on earth where the Rooibos shrub thrives. Rooibos tea is as much appreciated for its warm, sweet, earthy aromatics, as it is for the fact that it is naturally caffeine-free and has a number of health benefits, including being a good source of anti-oxidants.
